Ok, you're gonna laugh. I shot these with my point-n-shoot Casio Exilim EX-Z110 6mp. I have a strong commitment to using "inferior" cameras (like my mobile phone and my toy Holga). All my flickr shots are taken with just normal point-n-shoot or phone cams, and are most always snapshots (including my incredible landscapes of the Gorge and Cliffs of Moher). That's my artist manifesto!

Located in Bridlemile, WIlcox Manor is on the National Register of Historic Homes and will be open to the public on Sept. 30. The colonial revival home was completed in 1917.

Theodore Burney Wilcox was a big man who ran a big flour empire in Portland and eventually built a really big house.

The sprawling home, known as Wilcox Manor is set on four acres of beautiful gardens and is a hidden treasure in its Bridlemile neighborhood full of single-family homes. Since 1993 the house has been on the National Register of Historic Homes and as part of the designation, the owners must open the home to the public each year. Now divided into condos, two units and the baroque gardens will be open to anyone interested in viewing an elegant part of Portland’s past.

“In its heyday, the house was a center of Portland social life,” write authors William Hawkins and William Willingham in their book “Classic Houses of Portland, Oregon 1850 to 1950.” “Enormous rooms for entertaining ran the full width of the house and opened onto the terraced and walled back gardens.”

I had this problem with an iMac (intel) and an airport (extreme base with an express for range/iTunes). My issue was I'm using DSL with PPPoE, and my modem/router (Westell 6100) was configured as a router with PPPoE handling, as was my Airport Extreme . . . I think they fought over who was maintaining the PPPoE connection. I reset my Westell to "dumb modem" mode and let the Airport maintain the PPPoE and that seems to have solved the problem.

Some Linksys routers (incorrectly) do not provide the router IP address or DNS addresses. I have found that this causes a lot of Internet failures, even though the Mac says it is connected.

Open Sys Prefs and check the Network settings for your wireless. There should be a IP addy for the Router. If not, there is your problem. If there is, look further down and see if DNS has any entries. If not try to add your own, such as the public OpenDNS addy's :
208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
These work for anyone no matter what.

it shouldn't be your router. i had a netgear for my laptop and it worked fine. however, i had a similar issue with my mac when i used it at work. full signal strength but no connection. the problem was that i was not getting an ip address. go to system preferences>network and click on the 'airport' connection. it should say if you're getting an ip address. if you're not click the proxy tab and see if your sister has any proxies checked off. that will prevent you from getting a connection or ip address. just uncheck or delete the proxies and that should clear everything up.
