I’ve decided to press Evernote into service as a CRM application, to keep track of contacts that I make networking and marketing my practice management assistance program. Although it is early going using Evernote in this capacity, I am pretty pumped about it so far.

I can input data in a bunch of different ways, tag each “note” in countless ways and search and sort the data very easily. I don’t bother actually keeping the contact info in there as I’m more or less locked into using Outlook and a Blackberry for that, but I use Evernote to keep all the emails, notes, and PDF documents I need about each contact. I create one “summary” note for each contact so I can easily find the most recent activity, and then each additional item is a note, tagged by contact.

If you receive an email you want to add to your Evernote notebook for later, you can forward it to your private Evernote email address, which turns any email it receives into a new note. (You can find your private Evernote address in the Settings section of the web site.)

The grocery market I shop at has terrible reception as does some other areas. So because, Evernote does not locally store the notes on the iPhone, I cannot access my notes when I really need them!

Use Evernote to store serial numbers, login details, pins & codes whether for software or to get into your house!

Receipts. Wherever you are (again particularly useful if you have iphone) take a photo of any/every receipt and have it all stored & searchable on your evernote.

Code Snippet Library: Coder? Use evernote as a store for all those snippets of code that you need to revisit.

Takeaway & Delivery menus! Yep, scan or even just photograph your menus & never lose them again. Just think, you can search for whatever you’re in the mood for! :]

Instant Message Store: Ever need a record of a previous instant message conversation - copy & paste it into evernote & it’s there whenver you need it.

Inspiration: I use Evernote more for this than anything. I’m an inspiration fanatic - particular with design (logos & websites in particular). When online & I come across a site, logo or maybe just part of a site I like - you can just use Evernotes to capture that area or page. Should you want to capture the entire webpage (which you would normally have to scroll down for), I recommend using a firefox screenshot tool like screengrab! which lets you quickly save the entire page as an image and you can then insert that image file from your desktop into evernote. Works a charm and particularly fast on the mac.
Of course, if you find inspiration on the road - take a photo of it or use your iphone to and you’ve got it there to come back to when you need it.

Recipes: Find an recipe you like in a book, online or wherever - capture it using the many options available to you. The next time someone asks you the recipe for the wonderful dish you just made, or maybe you’re stuck for options while at a friends place - guess who has the perfect recipe to hand? :]

Paper notes: Find you’d much rather stick to handwritten notes? Then just keep them to hand at the end o...

The Evernote Widget: Notebooks To Go

June 5th, 2008

I use Evernote to collect all of the interesting things I see, wherever I am. For me, a big part of collecting is sharing, so I tend to make a lot of public Evernote notebooks (see: publishing notes). We recently added a new option that makes sharing a lot more flexible: The Evernote Widget.

Here is a widget of funny things I’ve found on the internet:

Think of the Evernote Widget as a portable version of a public notebook. You can create a widget from any public notebook and embed it directly into your blog, Facebook, and MySpace pages. Here is what you can do with it:

Share notes from any public notebook

Display thumbnails, titles, and links to the notes

Search right from the widget, even for text within images

Get your own

Follow these steps to get your widget:

Go to a public notebook (yours or someone else’s)

Click the ‘Get Widget’ link beneath the search bar

Click ‘Add to Facebook’ or click the code to copy it

Paste the code into your blog or anywhere that takes HTML

Share your memories as they happen

Here’s how to set up the Evernote Widget to instantly share everything from mobile snapshots to web clips to audio notes as soon as you create them:

Make your default notebook public

Create a widget of that notebook

Embed the widget on your blog, Facebook, or MySpace page.

Now, whenever you create and sync new notes, your friends will instantly see them.

More sharing options are on the way. Stay tuned.

the new Evernote Web Clipper, which gives you the ease and simplicity of bookmarking, but more importantly, also gives you context by saving the text, images, and links, including the source URL, right into your Evernote account. Once the page, or part of a page, is saved into your account, you can tag, organize, search, browse, edit, and remember it forever.

I use the web clipper when I’m researching vacations, looking for a good recipe, or when I run across neat technical articles. With a single click, I have the content saved. So, even if the page goes away, my memory of it doesn’t.

Most importantly, because the web clipper is part of Evernote, you can have more than just copies of web pages. You can remember all sort of stuff such as, pictures, personal notes, doodles on napkins, and anything else, all accessible online, offline, and from your phone.
