Navigating the Evernote Web interface

Evernote Web allows you to create, access, and find your notes on the web. The default view shows your notes as thumbnails with the newest appearing at the top left.

The left panel, also known as the Organizer Panel provides the tools to organize, filter, and find your notes. The panel consists of five sections: Notebooks, Tags, Attributes, Saved Searches, and Trash.

Notebooks

Notebooks are collections of notes. Use the "Edit" menu at the bottom of the Notebook Panel to create, rename, delete, and edit notebooks. The "default notebook" (designated by a star) is the notebook into which new notes are placed, unless otherwise specified.

Tags

Assign tags to notes to make them easier to find. Use the "Edit" menu at the bottom of the Tag Panel to create, rename, and delete tags. To assign a tag to a note, simple click and drag the tag onto the note, or select one, or more notes and drag them onto the tag.

Attributes

Evernote creates automatic filters based on various aspects of notes such as creation date, whether the notes contain images or to-do items, whether the notes were clipped for websites, and many other attributes. To filter by an attribute, select it.

Saved Searched

Saved Searches are a saved set of search criteria, which allows you to easily repeat a search later. Create a Saved Search by clicking the "Save Search" button after you have completed a search.

Trash

To delete a note, group of notes, notebook, or tag, simply drag and drop them on the Trash. Empty trash from the "Edit" menu at the bottom of the trash panel.

Important note: Any note that has been in the trash for more than 30 days is automatically permanently deleted.

Creating notes and adding content

Evernote lets you add notes in a variety of ways.

Text note and to-do lists

  1. Select the destination notebook for the new note
  2. Click the New Note button
  3. Add a note title and, optionally, drag tags onto the tag area
  4. When finished creating note, click Save Changes, or Cancel to exit without saving

Clipping web pages into your account

Web clipping allows you to add web page content, including links, images, and text to your Evernote account with a single click. Get the web clipper here.

How to get the best clipping results with the bookmarklet

Good

Click without selecting any text. This will capture the entire webpage, although results may vary widely depending on the way the page is formatted. Sometimes this method will not capture anything.

Better

Select a portion of text and images, then click the web clipper button. Results will be much more consistent, although they may still vary.
