Upgrading Evernote for SanDisk

This page provides an overview of how to upgrade from Evernote 2.2 to the new Evernote for Windows (version 3.0).

Evernote and SanDisk

When you insert a Cruzer drive into a Windows computer, it automatically launches the SanDisk U3 LaunchPad. From here, you can download and run a set of applications from SanDisk's catalog of U3 programs, including Evernote.

Upgrading from Evernote 2.2

If you have installed Evernote 2.2 on your SanDisk drive, you can import your previous database into the new Evernote for Windows, version 3.0. You will be able to keep both Evernote 2.2 and Evernote for Windows 3.0 on the same SanDisk drive while you import and evaluate the new Evernote.

Note: If you are already running a copy of Evernote 3.0 from your main hard drive, you will need to exit it completely in order to run the SanDisk edition from your flash drive. To do this right click on the Evernote icon in the lower right system tray and select "Exit".

To install Evernote for Windows 3.0 through the U3 LaunchPad, click the "Add Programs" link.

If you have Evernote 2.2 on your SanDisk drive, and have an existing database of notes, you can use the following steps to import these notes in to Evernote 3.0:

  1. Quit Evernote 2.2 if it is running
  2. Open your Evernote account in the Windows 3.0 client by providing your username and password.
  3. Select the Note >> Import menu. Open the file containing your Evernote 2.2 database.
    Select Database
  4. Wait for import to complete. If the import is successful, you will have an option to put the imported notes into a synchronized notebook, or to keep them in a local notebook that will only be accessible on that SanDisk drive:
    Select Database

If you move your notes into a Synchronized notebook, you will have access to those notes from any of your computers using Evernote client software or any web browser. This will also give you protection against data loss, since you will have a backup of all of your notes if your Cruzer is ever lost or damaged.
