At the beginning of this short review I asked if you’ve ever spent $20 and wondered how you got along without that item... well that’s pretty much how I feel about EverNote Portable 2.0. I can’t recommend this program enough! Go give the free version a run through -- I’m willing to bet once you give it a go and then think about all that power being on a thumbdrive with you all the time, you won’t be able to find a single reason not to buy it.

When I first reviewed EverNote back in January, I was impressed by its versatility -- the app can be bent in almost any direction to suit your preferred workflow. As a way of collecting and indexing the information one finds throughout the day, time stamping it and making it searchable, EverNote is damned impressive.

Unlike Google Desktop search, EverNote only finds information that you’ve put into EverNote, but for that exact reason, it can be a lot more useful for keeping track of specific kinds of work. EverNote is similar to Microsoft’s OneNote, but it includes a lot more functionality. The main retrieval feature is its instant text filter, which I love... The new synchronization feature lets me update my EverNote database between multiple computers via a USB drive.

The first nice thing you will notice when you fire up EverNote is a nice clean “notepad on steroids” interface... The application actually makes taking notes an exercise I look forward to now...
